Dear Colleagues,
Nursing is more than a profession; it represents a profound emotional commitment to caring for those who are ill, disabled, and at the end of life. It is a practice grounded in compassion, empathy, and humanity. Each day, we dedicate ourselves supporting individuals during their
most vulnerable moments, providing not just medical care but also emotional and psychological support.

As an overseas nurse, I faced numerous challenges along the way. Reflecting on my experience, I realize now that I could have benefited from more thorough research and a stronger support system during the transition. The disparities in policy protocols and the diverse accents added to the difficulties I encountered. At times, I sought a shoulder to lean on but found that no one was there to listen. That is why I am incredibly grateful for our association, which was established specifically to support nurses like us in need. I want to
extend my deepest appreciation to our founder and past presidents and their dedicated committee members who created this invaluable platform for sharing experiences and offering mutual assistance. Our work requires dedication, resilience, and an unwavering
commitment to each person we serve. I believe that our collective strength lies in our ability to connect with patients and their families, offering them comfort, dignity, and hope during challenging times.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our incredible nurses. Throughout the pandemic and beyond, you have faced unimaginable challenges with unwavering dedication and exceptional skill. Your knowledge, expertise, and compassionate care have served as a beacon of hope for countless patients and truly illustrate the nobility of the nursing
profession. Since joining the association as treasurer in 2015, I have had the privilege of witnessing directly the remarkable achievements we have accomplished together. It is with great humbleness and honour that I accept the role of President of this prestigious organization.
As President, my primary focus will be on fostering continued collaboration among Nepali nurses, our communities, NHS and the social care while adhering to the standards set forth by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Together, we will work to enhance support
networks, promote professional development, and advocate for the contributions of Nepali nurses within the UK healthcare system that enhance the well-being of both patients and nurses.

As President of NNAUK, I have outlined several key missions to guide our collective efforts in advancing the interests and well-being of Nepali nurses in the UK:

1. Career Pathways: We will actively seek to identify and promote career development opportunities for all Nepali nurses working in the UK, helping everyone reach their professional goals and aspirations.

2. Highlighting Contributions: We are committed to raising awareness of the invaluable work that Nepali nurses perform within the UK healthcare system. We will highlight both the challenges they face and the significant contributions they make to humanity, ensuring that their efforts are recognized and appreciated.

3. Community Outreach: The NNAUK will expand its reach by organizing more health awareness events, offering general health check-ups, and providing vital health advice to diverse communities throughout the UK. We aim to make a positive impact on public health while strengthening our ties with the communities we serve.

4. Professional Advocacy: We recognize the importance of supporting our nurses' well-being, particularly in times of difficulty. To this end, we offer restorative resilience support for nurses in need, ensuring they have access to the tools and necessary resources to navigate challenges effectively to thrive in their roles.

5. Support for Nurse Well-being: The well-being of nurses is crucial for the sustainability of our profession. I will prioritize initiatives that address mental health, burnout prevention, and work-life balance, recognizing that when we care for ourselves, we are better equipped to care for others.

Through these initiatives, I am confident that we can enhance the support for our members and strengthen our collective impact on the healthcare system. Together, we will continue to promote excellence in nursing and uphold the values of our profession.

Thank you once again for your unwavering commitment, dedication and resilience. Together, let us continue to uplift each other and the communities we serve.

Warm regards,
Rashmita Darlami.
President (2024-2027), NNAUK.
